The Foundation for Global Sports Development Opens Application Round for 2019 Exceptional Youth Scholarship

The scholarship will award ten seniors $5,000 each, in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and community service.

Los Angeles, Calif. – March 22, 2019 – The Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) has launched its 2019 Exceptional Youth Scholarship and is now accepting applications. This is the fifth year the foundation will offer the scholarship, which was created to recognize high school seniors who have gone above and beyond in academics and community service.

“So far, we have awarded over 40 students with this scholarship, most of whom have relied on scholarships to attend college,” said Dr. Steven Ungerleider, GSD Executive Board Member. “We are pleased support their efforts in continuing their education and working towards their goals.”

The scholarship is open to high school seniors graduating in the class of 2019. The recipients will have demonstrated a high level of achievement in the classroom as well as their broader community. Volunteerism and mentorship are core elements of the Exceptional Youth Scholarship. The scholarship committee will also take the students’ financial need into consideration.

The deadline for applications is April 30, 2019. The award consists of a one-time scholarship of $5,000 to be applied towards the cost of attending an accredited four-year college or university within the United States.

David Ulich, GSD Executive Board Member, emphasized the need for programs like the Exceptional Youth Scholarship. “All too often, a young person is denied the chance to pursue higher education, due to lack of finances and increases in scholastic costs. With the Exceptional Youth Scholarship, we aim provide these students with opportunities they may not otherwise have.”

GSD is committed to continuously supporting programs and initiatives that celebrate exceptional youth. For further details on the scholarship award, eligibility and the application process, please visit GSD’s website at www.globalsportsdevelopment.org.
