The Foundation for Global Sports Development Announces its 2020 Exceptional Youth Scholarship Recipients

The Foundation for Global Sports Development is awarding its 2020 Exceptional Youth Scholarship to five students from the graduating class of 2020. Each $10,000 scholarship is in recognition of the student’s outstanding academic achievement and commitment to community service. The selection committee looked at every applicant holistically, considering academics, financial need, community service and involvement, and personal experiences.

“These scholarship recipients represent the best of the best from across the United States,” said Dr. Steven Ungerleider, executive board member for the foundation. He continued, “Between the five of them, they volunteered over 1,700 hours of community service during their high school careers. Their academic achievements were beyond impressive, and each student demonstrated leadership and resilience throughout their time in high school.”

This year the foundation launched its new award structure, which grants five students $10,000, a change from its previous ten $5,000 awards. David Ulich, executive board member for GSD, said “In past years, we saw significant gaps in funding for school, even with our scholarship. We increased the award to close that gap and remove barriers for deserving students.”
