BOOST Grant Program for High-Performance Athletes

BOOST is designed to support high-performance athletes whose lives have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Athletes who are poised to compete at the Winter Games have been affected by the sudden drop in training, competitions, and sponsorships that have caused them to forgo training to focus on other pressing issues as a result of the pandemic. GSD intends to support these athletes and encourage them to continue their training with a renewed focus

The program also seeks to recognize active athletes who have demonstrated remarkable volunteerism or mentorship. Final selections will be guided by an Advisory Board, which includes the following members:

  • Reynaldo Brown (Olympian – High Jump)
  • Karin Korb (Paralympian – Wheelchair Tennis)
  • Gabrielle Sabharwal (Publicist and PR Director)
  • Tracy Evans (Olympian — Freestyle Skier)
  • Darrell Ell (Former Competitions and Development Officer for World Curling Federation)

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have competed in a qualifying Winter sports event in 2021
  • Must not have an anti-doping rule violation in their career
  • Cannot have a conviction or open investigation of sexual abuse, sexual assault, or sexual misconduct.
  • Must be experiencing an adverse impact from COVID-19
  • Cannot be a previous recipient of GSD’s Athletes in Excellence Award or BOOST2020 Grant
  • Must submit application by Friday, October 15th 

Selection Criteria

  • High-performance athlete
  • COVID-19 impact on training
  • COVID-19 impact on competition
  • Community service and mentorship efforts

Winners

  • Final selections will be guided by an Advisory Board.
  • If selected, athletes will be asked to participate in various promotional activities, including: On 2-3 occasions over the next year, submit photos of yourself training for us to share on social media, in our annual report, on our website, etc. (to highlight your efforts as an athlete)
  • If you have a social media account, create a post thanking us using the tag @GSD_Sidewinder Participate in a spotlight interview (either via email or spoken) within one year of receiving the grant (will touch on your training, how the award has impacted you, etc.)
  • Provide a short report on the use and impact of the grant before April 30, 2022
  • Cannot be a previous recipient of GSD’s Athletes in Excellence Award or BOOST2020 Grant
  • Provide images, video, and quotes as reasonably required by The Foundation for Global Sports Development for use in social media campaigns, website articles and other digital or distributed content
