2010 Playmakers Trip to Vancouver

Our 2010 Playmakers program was a collaborative effort with the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula and East Side Preparatory Academy. With their help we selected 50 teens for the adventure of a lifetime to Vancouver to fully immerse themselves in the Olympic experience.

Our week-long trip included attending sporting events such as Hockey, Moguls, and Curling. In addition to the Olympic events, the youth visited local Olympic celebrations, such as the O-Zone in downtown Richmond, BC, and festivities in downtown Vancouver and Whistler. We also explored the local culture and history by going to Britannia Mine Museum, UBC Museum of Anthropology, and the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

The youth met with their small groups each day to discuss various aspect of the culture of sport, including sportsmanship, teamwork, goals, and staying healthy. During these group meetings, the Playmakers also shared their experiences of the day and kept notes in journals for them to keep and remember this experience for years.
